Doom Patrol’s Stunt Coordinator, John Robinson, has teased big action for Season 3. He also revealed that the show will be “more grounded” in Season 3.
The doom patrol cast is teasing big action for the upcoming season. They also confirmed that they will be appearing in the Justice League movie this fall.
With its colorful characters and boundary-pushing storylines—they did do sex ghosts in Season 2, after all—Doom Patrol may be one of the wildest DC television shows, but the HBO Max series is also full of impressive stunts and crazy action sequences that somehow keep one-upping themselves each season. They’re doing it again in Season 3, according to the series’ stunt coordinator. Season 3 will “ramp up by a factor of 10” everything from the previous two seasons of the popular series, according to Thom Williams of CBR.
“Take everything you saw in the previous two seasons and double it by 10 because the writers, stunt team, actors, PAs, and everyone on the cast and crew were all ready to go after our COVID vacation,” Williams remarked. “We were itching to get back into the game. It was completely demolished by everyone. It was incredible.”
Increasing the intensity by a factor of 10 seems like Season 3 is going to be a crazy ride. After all, Cliff/Robotman (Brendan Fraser) was devoured by a giant-sized rat called Admiral Whiskers in Season 1, and Cliff fought Jesus Christ, or at least an imagined buddy version of him created by the Candlemaker, in Season 2. That sequence in particular was characterized by Williams as enjoyable, and he said that he wanted to test how far he could push things without getting into trouble.
“It was a lot of fun!” Williams stated his opinion. “We already have a wacky, off-the-wall show, and when I first read the screenplay, I thought to myself, “Of course, why wouldn’t he be battling Jesus?” Because I am a Christian guy with a strange sense of humor, my mind began to race with it. I was just thinking about all the incredible things we could accomplish with this battle. I wanted to test how far I could take it without getting in trouble, and I had a great time doing it.”
The third season of Doom Patrol has yet to be announced, but fans are excited to see the show return. Season 2 ended on a dramatic cliffhanger, with the Candlemaker covering DC’s weirdest heroes in wax, leaving only the Chief’s (Timothy Dalton) daughter Dorothy (Abigail Shapiro) to take on the terrifying monster. The fate of the Doom Patrol is unknown. Though some of it was due to COVID-19 shutting down production rather than the tale itself. Last year, Shapiro told Insider that the edited finale episode was almost completed before the government shutdown, but she wasn’t sure whether it would broadcast.
“It was very much done,” Shapiro remarked. “There was supposed to be one more episode, and we just had a few of sequences remaining, but that episode was never completed.”
Season 3 will include a plethora of new characters in addition to the heroes stuck in wax predicament. Micah Joe Parker (The Vampire Diaries) has joined the cast as Malcolm, with Wynn Everett (Agent Carter) as Shelley Byron aka The Fog, Miles Mussenden (The Walking Dead) as Lloyd Jefferson aka Frenzy, Anita Kalathara (MacGyver) as Holly McKenzie aka Sleepwalk, and Gina Hiraizumi as Sachiko aka The Quiz rounding out the cast. The characters, dubbed “the Sisterhood of Dada,” are all based on Grant Morrison’s comic book run’s “Brotherhood of Dada.” In addition, Sebastian Croft and Ty Tennant will portray the Dead Boy Detectives Edwin Paine and Charles Rowland, respectively, while Michelle Gomez will play Madame Rouge.
Season 3 of Doom Patrol has yet to be announced, although it is anticipated to premiere in 2021. HBO Max is currently streaming the first two seasons.
